Harmony Day - Slovenian Embassy at Hughes Primary School
Slovenian Embassy responded to Canberra's Hughes Primary School invitation and presented the project Our Rights, which took place on 17 March 2017 and was organised in light of Harmony Day.
Harmony Day is a celebration of cultural diversity – a day of cultural respect for everyone. (http://www.harmony.gov.au/). There were many activities for the pupils at Hughes Primary School; Project Our Rights was presented through the workshops to four groups of up to 30 children. It gave us an opportunity to deliver basic information about Slovenia, The Organisation of United Nations and Human Rights Council. Kids were very responsive and willing to interact; they shared with us their backgrounds, their family situations and their needs. Besides the rights we also discussed the obligations they have. At the end they painted (individually or in a team) their understanding of kids rights, for example a right to have a family, education, free time and game, equal opportunities, etc.
At the end we gave away some of the promotional material I feel Slovenia. Not just kids but also teachers were fascinated about the slogan and they made a remark that Slovenia will present a symbol of love to them from now on.
